About this deal

Anyway I'm waffling and my beer is getting warm - never good unless you like cask ale that's been sitting on the bar all day and is now as warm as a pint of p*ss I live in France in an old house. Outside, we have the remains of surrounding fortified walls. Some are at least ten foot high. ... I have tried stabilising solution and PVA but the problem keeps recurring. Any suggestions to prevent this happening would be helpful. I personally wouldn’t use it unless the sand was really loose or the render is brittle. I do know lots of painters that do use it for these reasons on new render – almost like a mist coat and also for some other reasons. But I believe this can affect the coverage. Thank you kindly for taking time out of your day to answer my questions. It is greatly appreciated.

October last year I had the front of a Victorian house redecorated by a builder. It was in a bad state of repair as it had not... Painted a newly rendered wall last year and after allowing drying time, was also a bit dusty / sandyIn such cases, I always recommend that the wall is left exposed to weather for at least 12 months prior to painting. Along with using on chalky or dusty surfaces, stabiliser can also be used on surfaces with high absorption. Some render can be highly absorbent and slightly friable due to the type of sand and mix. So it’s the same as sealing a porous wall.

Stabilising solution is in essence a sealer for poor surfaces. So in reference to previous answer....how can it be breathable? Just bear in mind that the stabilising solution will impair the breathability of the finishing coats so only apply to areas where it’s really necessary. If painting direct onto wall then yeah , prep like mad, 100% if you like and especially if you want a top finish as I don't believe paint hides a lot of imperfections. Sure a Matt finish can help to hide these where as a silk finish will highlight imperfections Would you recommend the use of sandtex stabilising solution as a primer to prevent the paint failure??Hi again Dave - I don't have a smartphone or an Iphone, but nonetheless my son has worked something out. I hope you can see from the images. I honestly would like to have a go at fixing myself, and from what a friend said the other day, he doesn't believe that it needs to be re-skimmed, just prepped, but I know he has very different standards to me, and will I be happy with the end result.
