About this deal

Note: For a warmer tint I personally enjoy layering a few sprays of Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige with Victoria`s Secret Heavenly Eau de Parfum (body mist). The opening is pretty much a basket of dry herbs too populous to list, but including players like basil, thyme, and rosemary. There is a very strictly clean helping of lemon oil, camphor, and some taut English lavender, reminding me much of a component in Avon's Structured for Man (1969) vanity set (see the Steel component). Acqua di Selva is much more balanced and less cold medicinal camphor than the Avon, but I can see the inspiration. The heart is carnation and clary sage with some geranium to add more metallic brightness in an age before aldehydes were used in that way for masculines, but the base is where the main character lives. Pine, oakmoss, vetiver, cedar, and a bit of coumarin give this the main barbershop feel of Acqua di Selva, and will be most of what you smell after about an hour. This could be a good if somewhat antique-smelling office scent, great on hot days too, perfect for the "postmodernist" friend who is too hipster for the word "hipster". I wouldn't use this in social settings or romantic evenings unless your company has a particular taste for stuff from this era. This fragrance is a show with several acts. This distinguishes it wonderfully from many later products, where after 10 seconds you already know what the water will smell like 2 hours later (still). The head, heart and base each have their own program, and it is amazing how far apart they are - and yet how harmoniously they merge into one another. What I find safe as my go-to summer scent is Chance Eau Tendre hair mist. It has bright citrusy notes suitable for warmer days, and just enough floral notes blended in to make it more versatile just in case the temperature drops a few degrees. Hyacinth and iris brings up a green and waxy vibe, which always makes me feel composed and effortlessly chic. Why hair mist? Just because I get paranoid that perfume, sweat, sunscreen and sunlight just don’t mix well.

Much like the Spanish Inquisition, as immortalised in the words of Monty Python, my weapons of choice are "fear and surprise, surprise and fear." They seem to work pretty well. Summer is by far my favorite season and my perfume wadrobe attests to this. Of my 330+ perfumes I'd say 3/4ths are what I would dub "summery." I am one of those folks who loves a good airy, fresh, green or fruity summer scent. But as the dog days of summer intensify, and the mercury rises, I find myself reaching for my balsamy, vanilla, and frankly heavy scents. Sultry, that's what these fragrances are to me. A list of some of my favorite fragrances for summer. From one perfume lover to another, Fragrantica's international team of editors share their own personal choices as to what works for them in different longitudes & latitudes during the time of year we folks in the Northern Hemisphere enjoy as summer. We invite you to share your own personal choices in the comments section below. Sometimes I do crave sultry, spicy scents even during the day. My beloved Coco extrait and EDP work really well and just like John, I find Coromandel by Chanel also a surprisingly good match with the weather. For a lighter patchouli dose, I wear Coco Mademoiselle EDT and Miss Dior Cherie EDT (2011). They are sweet but still fresh enough to be enjoyed and lift my mood instantly. The fact that I want to discuss Aqua di Selva here in my very first review is perhaps a little cheeky... you could just as well ask a lawyer for a qualified opinion on Mozart's Jupiter Symphony. However, I have my reasons: This classic here really surprised me.

For example, the more intricate oriental/woody scents, as well as the more mysterious chypre fragrances (with their less volatile molecules or their animalic nuances), can become a little too much in extreme heat. But how can one survive on a diet of citrus-only, or a rotation of faceless synthetic ozonic fragrances which present little variation among themselves?

This year I started to rely on vetiver scents to bring me relief in the heat. I wear Sycomore by Chanel and Sel de Vetiver by The Different Company. Like Sophie, I love Carnal Flower in the summer. I also own the hair mist and it's wonderful too.Summertime can be a challenging season for many devoted perfume lovers. We all share a common interest in exploring complexity in a fragrance, appreciating its nuances and evaluating the long story that is narrated on the skin by a good scent. Yet when the temperatures change, so do our preferences for fragrance. Actually here is winter this time of year - although the "winter" in Brazil can be compared to the fall of the rest of the world! In any case in the summer I use: Bvlgari Mon Jasmine Noir L'eau Exquise: WONDERFUL!! Inoffesive at the workplace and still wonderful enough to charm your significant other.

Counter-intuitively, another perfume I often reach for is an oriental vanilla one, Vanillary by Lush. Thanks to a lovely Fragrantica member who introduced this scent to me, I am now hooked! Apply with a light hand; Vanillary shines in heat (so do quite a handful of gourmand and oriental ones)! The inky jasmine, vanilla and tonka combo somewhat smells like an exotic tropical island. Similar to what a coconut suntan lotion scent can conjure up, Vanillary has the same magic in summer.

Because I am a vanilla and oriental fan, I also enjoy wearing Eau Duelle by Diptyque in summer. A vanilla dressed up with spices, woods and powdery touch, Duelle's delicate and subtle sillage is perfect for summer.

Dior Sauvage: This doesn't just smell soapy and clean but it's stunning! The new very cool spray is even perfect for women! This option mixes the woody notes of barks, mosses and warm resins with the greener impression of aromatic spices, sweeping bypassers off their feet. When this particular product is first applied, bergamot, basil, lavender, rosemary and lemon come to the fore. Next middle notes of carnation, geranium, thyme, clary sage and pine move in. Finally the base of vetiver, tonka bean, moss, musk and cedar climbs to hone the olfactory experience. (Vetiver, sometimes called khus, is a grass similar to lemongrass and native to India.) Visconti di Modrone Colognes: Price UK Summertime in Greece is becoming hotter and hotter it seems, though we're quite accustomed to endless summer days when something light and bracing is best appreciated if one doesn't want to overwhelm their entourage and casual bystanders.

I love Acqua di Selva. It is now 64 years old, and does not smell dated to my nose. It opens with a tart lemon, fresh lavender, herbaceous pine. Smells clean and fresh in a non-laundry-musk or aquatic way. No this scent is somewhere between the synthetic modern scent and sniffing an actual lemon or lime or orange peel. There is also a hint of spicy middle that makes the citrus easier on the nose, in my opinion. It reminds me a bit of one other favorite of mine, Old Spice Fresh Scent. It's similar in the mid scents and base. Of course the citrus is what is vastly different. Chanel Chance Eau Vive: This works beautifully in our climate irrespective of whether its day or night. However, I wouldn't wear it on a rainy day because when it rains, IT POURS and it doesn't work in such crazy humidity. Davidoff Cool Water: Your inexpensive replacement to Creed Green Irish Tweed and this just works crazy good in the heat!
