About this deal
It also appeals to fans of both the Cthulhu mythos as well as those who don’t know anything about it, which is unusual. I sat on the hard, wooden bench in the rear of the plane, surrounded by the arcane artefacts we stole from that mountain. It’s definitely one that I would recommend giving a try, especially if you like Lovecraft’s stories. If they succeed in meeting at least one of the two challenges on a tile, they collect a reward; for every challenge they fail, they suffer the penalty indicated by rolling a custom die. That makes this a much lighter game, both in terms of play and feel, than you might otherwise expect from the title, Miguel Coimbra artwork and theme.
The game’s insert is a bit wonky, with just barely not enough space to hold all the cards, but there are spaces for everything to fit, which is appreciated. One last thing, in this phase the Leader can elect to discard one or more Leadership tokens to allow a player chosen by them, to ignore their Madness card for the rest of the turn.
Suddenly, someone is speaking in math problems rather than just telling you what numbers they can contribute. That said, I liked the description you gave of the game, but I had the same reaction that Wade did, in that the cards would become a known quantity too easily and the game would be just a routine of how to play around it, rather than play with it. There's a huge RNG factor to them, so you might just pick up a madness that has virtually no effect on your game, or another that is horribly crippling. Furthermore, I don’t mind losing in competitive games because at least someone has victory, but in cooperative games it’s more difficult for me justify the time played. You will, inevitably, all be in a screaming fit of panic to match the total with everyone yelling out "I can get green, I mean tools! If you’re very lucky you might find enough Relics to win the game, reach the summit of the mountain, and escape with the other inmates in your aerial asylum.
