Prior to Version 1.2.0 of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Hisuian Zorua's base stats were the same as Unovan Zorua's. This change was undone when Hisuian Zorua became available in those games. Similar occurences happened to Hisuian Zoroark and Kleavor.

Moves marked with a double dagger (‡) can only be bred from a Pokémon who learned the move in an earlier generation. This Pokémon has a cowardly disposition, so when it's not around friends, it basically always stays transformed as something else.

A once-departed soul, returned to life in Hisui. Derives power from resentment, which rises as energy atop its head and takes on the forms of foes. In this way, Zorua vents lingering malice. If Foresight or Odor Sleuth is used by an opponent, the opponent has Scrappy, or this Pokémon is given a Ring Target, the effectiveness of Normal-type moves is 1× and the effectiveness of Fighting-type moves is 2×. Zorua and Zoroark, as well as their regional forms, are the only known Pokémon that can have Illusion as an Ability. If Miracle Eye is used by an opponent or this Pokémon is given a Ring Target, the effectiveness of Psychic-type moves is 1×.

Zorua sometimes transforms into a person and goes into cities to search for food. When Zorua does this, it usually takes on the form of a child. Zorua's Hisuian Form was teased in a blurry found-footage style promotional video, and was revealed in full two days later. A final trailer was released the next week, showing its official artwork and information about it. To protect themselves from danger, they hide their true identities by transforming into people and Pokémon. Zorua is a timid Pokémon. This disposition seems to be what led to the development of Zorua's ability to take on the forms of other creatures. Zorua may be a combination of zorro (Spanish for fox) and rua (Irish for red, possibly referring to its red fur; madra rua is Irish for fox).
