It was such a change from the first one where I didn’t feel at all that he was using the characters so obviously.

Sunset Song”, the first and most celebrated book of the trilogy, covers the early years of the twentieth century, including the First World War.I did consider abandoning it, but I do kinda feel I ought to have read all three of these because of their Scottish classic status – although it’s usually just the first one that appears on lists of great Scottish books.
