About this deal

Hood SK11 and Hood K7 | Having used Hood’s lined jeans for many, many thousands of miles in all climates from the UK to Spain and the USA, we can say with all honesty that they are NOT too heavy or hot to wear. The SK11s are the slimmer fit (though still with plenty of stretch), and both are available with a range of armour options. Extremely well made in a huge range of sizes and with outstanding customer support, Hood jeans come highly recommended. PROTECTION! CE and UKCA certified to EN 17092-2:2020 for Class AAA garments: the highest level of protection specified by the standard. There’s little reason for a good-quality pair of single-layer or lined motorcycle jeans – with knee and hip armour – to not be rated as AAA, so make that your first filter. You might hear some excuses for products not having the top rating, but the only way to know for sure is through testing, so be wary of bluster. Road surfaces across the UK vary massively, but you’ll find more and more of the highly-abrasive surface dressing (or chip-seal) on country roads.

Any garment that’s rated as Level B under EN17092 has no armour fitted. It also only needs to be tested to the equivalent of Level A for abrasion, burst and tear resistance. Some products will be the same as the AAA-rated gear from a brand but with the amour removed, because the buyer might have their own, or might not want to wear it. Like the Darmstadt machine, this is not intended to give a specific slide time or duration on a road – it provides what’s called a ‘relative abrasion time’ that allows you to compare products. A tapered fit creates a contemporary silhouette whilst offering similar levels of practicality as a roomier straight leg fit. A crotch gusset has been added to give extra flexibility which, coupled with a precisely selected amount of fabric stretch, helps to prevent the hem of the pant from riding up when sat on the bike. You’ll find relatively unknown armour brands like Smoothways and Keeptech, along with big players like D3O, Forcefield and Knox, as well as some own-brands like Dainese.Besides the knees in all levels, the hips in AA and AAA, and the bum in AAA only, the rest of the jeans are tested with the rig spinning at much lower speeds, so potentially offer less protection. You can see all the info in this article . Armour comes in all shapes and sizes; make sure it’s comfortable and that it covers the right areas then stays there Draggin Holeshot | We haven’t reviewed the Draggin Holeshots, but testing by MotoCAP showed them to have outstanding abrasion resistance. These are the thcikest jeans the Australian company makes, but there are plenty of others in the range to choose from. Now, we know how all that sounds — hence the polarization. Saying you shouldn't care about style screams right in the face of all that marketing jargon and your fellow riders at coffee stops constantly kibitzing about what they wear or you wear, how well it performs or doesn't and, of course, if it looks cool. See? Polarization. Of course, you and your posse care about looks. Duh! It's just that while you're on the bike, you should quit that thinking entirely and focus on riding.

You might argue that this is just a sample of two, but MotoCAP has done a lot more. It’s an independent motorcycle clothing assessment program based in Australia that uses rigorous and proven testing to help riders around the world to choose the safest motorcycle kit. UK roads are often thought of simply as ‘asphalt’, which is about four times less abrasive than chip-seal, or surface-dressed roads. It’s the surface you’ll most likely find on the main arteries of our road network.Hold the REV'IT! Eclipse at eye level, and you can literally see right through them. On a hot day, you might be tempted to ride in shorts… don't. Wear these instead. They offer a CE A rating and come with REV'IT! 's Seesmart CE Level 1 knee and hip armor, and you can adjust the knee armor up or down. Sa1nt's one of our favorite denim makers for riding because they don't cut corners. For instance, they knit with Dyneema, a material that's 15 times stronger than steel, and unlike other materials some brands use, Dyneema doesn't impact that coveted "jeans" feel. This matters: Even though these earn a CE AA rating, they fit and feel exactly like any denim you'd wear for any application, and that means you WILL choose these dungarees for any ride, probably over your more technical trousers, and that's okay—because at least it means you're not ripping around in a pair of dungarees that aren't designed to save your epidermis during a slide.

REV'IT! have relocated the crotch seams of a traditionally constructed jean pattern to allow for greater freedom of movement and comfort while sitting on the bike—especially for extended periods of time. This small but critical design is invisible whether on or off the bike and helps eliminate painful pressure points plus it ensures the waistband of the trousers stays in place when seated. Extra Comfort By Mechanical StretchThe rig does not take into account the energy that’s transferred to the material as you fall; that initial impact can make a huge difference.

In jeans, to achieve an AA or AAA rating, armour must be fitted at the knees AND the hips, but as to which is best… well, in all claims of safety, testing should be the final arbiter, so Level 2 offers the best protection. Some brands of armour achieve that with thinner materials than others, but it’ll come down to what feels comfortable to you, and what looks good.Visible studs in the SEESMART™ protector are hexagon-shaped and connected by narrow connection bands. This construction enables the protectors to be extremely flexible and remain relatively thin; exactly what a protector designed for clothes that integrate into daily life need to keep from looking like motorcycle gear. The hexagon shaped studs expand externally under impact, allowing them to absorb energy. This combination of external expansion and the use of SEEFLEX2925 material reduces impact energy, giving the protector its impact absorbing properties. MotoCAP’s testing takes into account the abrasion resistance of the entire garment. The details of the construction of these lined jeans has not been verified, but they could be part-lined with only localised areas of a protective fabric. Having a pair of protective motorcycle trousers is important to make sure you’re taking the necessary steps to keep yourself safe. When you buy cheaper alternatives, you’re putting yourself at risk of potential injury, whereas with Bike Stop’s high-quality range, you can find trousers that’ll keep your legs, knees and ankles protected in the unfortunate event of a crash. Like ski pants, the Component H20 gets a gator that fits over the boot top to prevent water from soaking your feet when fording streams or churning through deeper puddles. If you ski, you've used a system just like this, and our tester found it to be easy, with hook-and-loop fasteners that allow easy closure and a zippered cuff on top of that.
